Parent Handbook

03

How learning works at Musicphonetics, and what to expect as a parent — from the first trial to renewals, concerts, and reports.

01Welcome

Welcome to the Musicphonetics family. You have chosen private, one-to-one music education taught to a serious standard, and we are glad to be teaching your child. This handbook explains how everything works so you always know what to expect.

02How Classes Work

Every class is private — one teacher, one student — held at home or online, on the instrument of your choice. Lessons follow a consistent structure and are supported by clear practice goals and regular reporting.

03Trial Class

Your child's journey begins with a trial lesson. It allows the teacher to assess your child, allows your child to meet their teacher, and allows you to see how we work before committing.

04Package Structure

We offer three tiers of enrolment — The Foundation, The Transformation, and The Director's Circle — each with a defined number of monthly lessons and level of attention. Your enrolment advisor will guide you to the right fit.

05What Parents Should Expect

Expect a prepared, punctual teacher, honest assessment of your child's progress, steady improvement, and warm, regular communication. Expect us to treat your home and your time with respect.

06Practice Expectations

Progress depends on short, regular practice between lessons. A few focused minutes most days outperforms a single long session. Your gentle encouragement at home makes a real difference.

07Attendance

Consistency builds musicians. We ask that lessons be attended regularly and that the office be informed in advance if a session cannot be kept.

08Rescheduling

Life happens. Rescheduling is arranged through the office with reasonable notice, in line with our Refund & Payment Policy, so that records stay clear and fair to teacher and family alike.

09Online Class Setup

For online lessons, a stable connection, a quiet space, a charged device, and a clear view of your child and their instrument are all that is needed. We will help you set this up.

10Home Class Expectations

For home lessons, we ask for a quiet, well-lit space and a parent or guardian present in or near the room. Our teachers always work in an open, visible setting.

11Reports

You will receive a short report after lessons and a fuller monthly summary covering strengths, areas to improve, and goals. You are always welcome to ask questions.

12Concerts

Performance is part of learning here. Students take part in monthly home concerts, quarterly stage concerts, and an annual mega concert — building confidence in a supportive setting.

13Communication

We keep in touch through agreed channels. For anything regarding fees, scheduling, or concerns, the office is your single point of contact, ensuring a prompt and accurate response.

14Payments

Fees are billed by enrolment tier and cycle, with clear invoices. Details, methods, and timelines are set out in our Refund & Payment Policy.

15Renewals

Enrolment renews by cycle. We will remind you in good time and are always happy to discuss adjusting your child's plan as they grow.

16Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about instruments, scheduling, online versus home lessons, exams, and concerts are answered by our office and in our parent resources. Please ask us anything — we would rather you ask than wonder.
